JOSH NOWLIN is a graduate of the University of North Texas where he studied percussion with Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Ellis Smith, and Paul Rennick of the DCI World Champion Phantom Regiment. While studying music and education at UNT, Nowlin studied percussion arranging and composition with Paul Rennick. Nowlin now currently writes for several schools in Texas and Tennessee. Nowlin's percussion writing has one several awards including 2nd Place at the Lonestar Marching Classic standstill competition in 2009. The groups who have played his percussion arrangements have made appearances at the Texas State Marching contest and UIL Area Performances.
Mr. Nowlin has also frequently performed with numerous Performing Ensembles including the 2008 World Champion UNT Indoor Drum Line, The Boston Cursaders Drum and Bugle Corps, the 2 O’Clock Steel Band, the UNT Pop Ensemble, and the UNT Classical Percussion Ensembles. He was also selected to be Principle Percussionist for the UNT Symphony Orchestra in Spring of 2009. While at UNT he performed with many famous artists including Jazz Vibist Anders Astrand, Percussionist Emil Richards, Dave Brubeck, and the drummer from Journey, Steve Smith.
Josh Nowlin was a member of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006. He is a currnet member of TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association), ATSSB, and the Percussive Arts Society. He is also an alumni of the professional music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon. He currently resides in Mesquite with his lovely wife Maria Nowlin.
